Food Literacy Project Outing: A Food-Focused Tour at Harvard University Herbaria
Friday, October 13th
3:00-4:00pm
Location: Harvard University Herbaria
This event is open to all HUID holders.
The extensive collections of the Harvard University Herbaria include fungi, algae, bryophytes, and vascular plants. As “a centerpiece of biodiversity science since the early 1800s,” the HUH is one of the largest university herbarium collections in the world. During this tour, learn about this incredible resource right here on Harvard’s campus, and its collections that relate to food. Why is the preservation of food-related specimens meaningful to researchers today, and what can they reveal about the food system both historically, and in the present? This approximately 60-minute tour will be led by Dr. Michaela Schmull, Director of Collections and Curator of Ferns.
